Okay, don’t throw me under the bus, but it’s been over a month since I last updated Amanda Cross Co. I have had such a busy month and a half, and I wanted to hop on here quickly to explain myself before September rolls around. I want to be much more present for you guys in September, so think of today’s post as a warm up! Let’s chat about what I’ve been up to.
Taking On New Upwork Clients
So, literally, the day after I published my last piece on Amanda Cross Co. I had a client reach out to me on Upwork. This wasn’t just any client, this was my biggest client to date. I ended up signing on to write 20,000 words with the client. Since I have started working with that client I have written 25,000+ words for them. Yesterday I signed on to write another 7500-word post for them. So, by mid-September, I will have written 30,000+ words for them.
Do you want to know something odd? After I wrote my first 10,000-word post with them, I went back to my Master’s thesis which took me months to write. I’d written 10,000 words for them in two weeks. It took me months to write my Master’s thesis and it had fewer words (more research was required for it though, and I was in grad school most of the time I was writing my thesis.)
I have also taken on a few other one-off Upwork clients since we last talked. Nothing too terribly intense though besides the work I am doing with my big Upwork client at the moment. Do you hire through Upwork? Do you need a writer in the digital marketing, higher education, or human resources niche? Check out my profile to hire me!
Getting My First Big Off Upwork Client
One thing I’ve been working towards this year is finding clients off Upwork! I love Upwork, but it can be so finicky sometimes, and sometimes it’s hard wading through all of the jobs. I was excited when I got an email earlier this year from a client looking to work with a blogger. She’d seen my content from this very blog in a LinkedIn group and decided to reach out.
It took a few months of following up with emails and a phone call. We finally decided to work on content for this September. So, all August when I wasn’t working on work for my new Upwork client, I was squeezing in the package work my off Upwork client and I had agreed to.
Moving My Main Site To WordPress
One of the big projects I tackled in July was moving my main site to WordPress self-hosted. I adore WordPress now that I’ve been using it on this site for so long. I wanted to move The Happy Arkansan over so I could increase my SEO, add more to my website, and create sponsored partnerships easier. Moving to WordPress self-hosted for The Happy Arkansan has gone great so far even though I’ve had some hiccups with URLs and broken images.
If you are on the fence about WordPress, I highly suggest that you look into Siteground. They are always so helpful with all of my questions and helping me feel confident in my ability to host my blog on my own.
Thinking Of Creating A Course
Over the past week or so, I’ve been thinking about delving into the world of course creation. My course would definitely be about freelancing and geared toward my audience on The Happy Arkansan. I’ve been writing a few freelance related pieces on my lifestyle blog with great response so I think I want to try my hand at creating a freelance course targeted to millennials or college students.

Trying To Get My Financial Life Together
Last, but certainly not least, I’ve just been trying to get my financial life together. I talked about this on The Happy Arkansan a bit, but I finally listed out all my bills in a spreadsheet. I’ve also been contacting some old debt and making arrangements to pay it off. I really want to create a clean slate for myself so I can stress less, even if that means paying a lot for stuff right now.
I am so fortunate that freelancing is giving me the opportunity to pay my bills, get rid of debt, and get the cute things I want from stores all at the same time. It’s amazing what I am able to do. I am truly blessed.
So, there you have it. I wanted to do something quick. This post lets me get back into the groove of things before September hits like a ton of bricks. I know that this isn’t my usual content, but I hope that you’ll like it anyway. I’ve been gone so long, and I didn’t want you to think that I’ve abandoned this awesome life I have. Let me tell you, I definitely didn’t abandon this, but client work comes first me! I finally had a second to catch my breath, and I wanted to make sure that everyone who happens to read this was thoroughly updated before I have to delve even deeper into content creation in September.
